Job Location: Calabar, Cross River State (Frequent Travel to Ikom)
The Organisation
JOE Foundation was set up as a private, independent, non-partisan and non-religious organization, to contribute to the alleviation of adverse effects of Diabetes Mellitus in Nigeria especially in the Central Region of Cross River State. JOE Foundation was set up to ensure that the prevalence of Diabetes in the target communities is significantly curbed and useful resources are provided through periodic interventions to many individuals and communities.
The Role: Senior Programmes Officer (SPO)
The Senior Programmes Officer (SPO) is a member of staff of JOE Foundation for Diabetes, working in all aspects to include, but not limited to, leadership initiatives, grants management, community engagement, donor stewardship (donor-advised funds), events and general supervision.
Job Description
General Description:
The Senior Programmes Officer will be responsible for supervising and coordinating program/ project management, and evaluation. He or she will work with organisations as needed to develop proposals for possible funding; keep Executive Management and Supervising Trustee informed of organisational activities; maintain close coordination with the Board of Directors, the Programmes officer and other programmes staff as needed to accomplish program goals and objectives.
In the performance of his/her duties, under the overall supervision of the Board of Trustees, the Senior Programmes Officer will ensure the strengthening of the organisation and:
  • Serve as the primary contact person for the Foundation on all areas, particularly relating to programmes management, enquiries, funding and proposals,
  • Supervise the planning, coordination and development of programmes, events, and meetings (internal & external) that support the organisation’s objectives;
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of assigned program areas, including current issues and key resource people and organisations, and a clear understanding of how they fit into the Foundation’s interests.
  • Ensure that adequate resource files for assigned program areas are developed and maintained;
  • Supervise the development of proposals in assigned initiative programmes area(s), ensure that proposal summaries are coherent and accurate, and that all required information is provided;
  • Establish strategic partnerships with key national and international bodies;
  • Provide periodical reviews and reports on the overall effectiveness of each program area;
  • Develop first class, fundable proposals and reports as necessary for donors and sponsors;
  • Establish and meet specific work-related goals as outlined in quarterly work plans and gauged in quarterly and annual statistics;
  • Supervise the development of articles, reports, materials, press releases, concept notes for publication in newsletters and online bulletins;
  • Conduct research with other members of the programmes team on activities and issues using the internet, library and other information sources;
  • Supervise the management of the organisation’s online presence (website and social media platforms)
  • Supervise the indexing and filing of all publications received, and circulating the publications received;
  • Supervise the development of donors, partners and contacts list and databases and update the information regularly; actively participate in all staff operational/programmes meeting;
  • Supervise the preparation of Annual Reports/Budgets by the Foundation’s Account Officer;
  • Develop and maintain adequate resource files for assigned program areas;
  • Build relationships between the Foundation and possible funders/Partners;
  • Support the Foundation’s grant management, donor stewardship and community engagement program functions working with the trustees;
  • Manage organisation’s Secretariat & Volunteers;
  • Coordinate the implementation of JOE Foundation’s Projects and Programmes.

The selected candidate will be expected to devote his/her full time to this employment and expend best efforts on behalf of the organization.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in any health service related field. A working knowledge of care and management of diabetes is an added advantage.
  • At least five (5) years cumulative experience in a non-profit, in consultancy or as a Programmes Manager or Senior Programmes Officer
  • Experience working with a non-profit organisation in the health sector
  • Past experience in project management especially in the non-profit sector would be an advantage and applicant should have at least executed/managed two major non-profit initiative from the inception through execution and completion
  • Must have an above average proficiency in the use of computer packages (Microsoft office package etc.).
  • Should be an indigene of Cross River State from the Central Senatorial District and reside in Calabar
  • Must be willing to make frequent within the Central Senatorial District.
